Vacation with no money – who can help?

Of course it is nice to have holidays from time to time. This year I dreamed of visiting Norway, especially I wanted to see the Lofoten. I wanted to experience playing golf around midnight, as the sun is not going down these days. After I calculated the costs including renting a caravan I recognized that there is no chance of getting there, staying there, eating there of doing anything. So I got to save some money first and postpone the trip.

But I still want to have a little bit of summer experience. I mean there are thousands of all inclusive offers that might be attractive; but only if you enjoy lying on the beach all day and staying in a nice fancy hotel. Sorry, not for me – I like seeing things, doing all sorts of things, being active, nice nature, fascinating buildings, culture, people etc. So please let me know if you know some good websites or experiences with some cool road trip routes, great destinations you’ve visited...anything helps ;-)

Yours truly,

Hanna

  1. That's a hard one.

I mean you could always go climbing. I know some guys and if you're interested I could ask him where you can go for a cheap trip (he's been around).

I don't see you doing it, but the cheapest way is riding a bike through the country with some friends, to the alps or maybe through France to the beach. There's loads to explore on the way then.

  2. Have you looked into the WOOF movement? This stands for "working on organic farms" - your hosts give you a place to stay and provide your meals in return for a certain amount of work done on their land - usually half of each day - you get to meet some wonderful people and learn a lot as well as visiting some places off the usual track - thing they have a website - and it is a global organisation. We used to have WOOFers on our farm when I was young, and it was always a lot of fun

  4. Hi Laura, nope I have never heard about that! But I have to check it! It sounds a bit like work and travel - which I cannot really do because I am not a student anymore and have little time. Thanks for the hint! I´ll let you know if I will consider it!

  6. I have a friend who did WWWOF (or a similar organization) in Australia for 2 weeks and loved it. She said some people only did one week.

Have you checked out Norway on a budget websites?
